Behind the scenes at EFC 13

Held on Friday 13th April it did not keep the Cape triskaidekaphobians away...

What goes into the making of an event such as EFC13? From a TV perspective, cameras are a requirement

The commentators table with headphones a special broadcast microphones

One of the excellent Cape Town camera crew...

Rupert on steady-cam is what who the fighters see first as they enter the arena...

A good lighting rig is a must both for the arena spectators as well as the viewers at home.

Stephen "The Enforcer" Castle trying (and failing ) to be a ring girl...

Stuart, one of the Cape Town judges, having a Zen moment...and speaking of judges, there are rules, very strict ones that have to be enforced. These are a few:
  • Eye gouging of any kind.
  • Biting.
  • Hair pulling.
  • Groin attacks of any kind.
  • Putting a finger into any orifice or into any cut or laceration on an opponent.
  • Small joint manipulation.
  • Striking downward using the point of the elbow.
  • Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea.
  • Clawing, pinching or twisting the flesh.
  • Throwing an opponent out of the ring or fenced area.
  • Spitting at an opponent.
  • Throwing in the towel during competition.

And pretty women in the crowd...

Her boyfriend was one of the fighters...there for moral support.

Plenty of photographers at the hexagon...

SERIOUS security.

Another face in the crowd...
Bernardo Mikixi after winning his fight...

Jadyson Costa during his fight for the championship
