Celebrity Reflection in Istanbul.

Reflection arrives in the port of Istanbul.
You can get from the ship to the city centre in less than a 15 minute walk!

This was one of many crows that landed on deck before we had finished docking.

A view of Istanbul with the Galata Tower on the right.
It is the last of 24 watchtowers originally built to guard the city

A view of second bridge.

Cats...

and dogs have the "freedom of the city".
They are chipped, tagged and sterilized and then released.
The locals take care of them

Candy...Turkish style.

Part of the Grand Bazaar.
Everyone goes to "have a look"...

Looking for a scarf or a pashmina?
Then you HAVE to visit The Cashmere House in the Grand Bazaar.

Like the candy, the ice-cream looks like a scarf...
This particular type is made with goats milk

The summer house at the Topkapi Palace

One of the many treasures at the Topkapi Museum

Istanbul is famous for wooden houses.
This section is slightly off the beaten track, but is worth a visit.
Away from the main tourist roads, it can be enjoyed without the throngs of people
It can be found behind the Hagia Sophia

Looking for original craft?
Then look out for the Applied Handicraft Center.
Built in 1559 by Mimar Sinan, it houses classes where students are taught a variety of crafts

Much like New York, these vendors can be found on every street corner.
They sell hot chestnuts, corn-on-the-cob and a variety of bagels and pastries

It is easy to get around Istanbul as they have an efficient public transport system.

Let the buyer beware...if you are going to buy a carpet,
make sure that you get it from a reputable/ recommended supplier.
We bought ours from the Istanbul Craft Centre

More meat than you can shake a stick at.
It seems as if this fellow was putting the entire cow onto the skewer

Taksim Square.
2000 people were injured here and 7 died during demonstrations to save the park

The Metro...clean, efficient and fast.
A trip costs the equivalent of R45.00
