Emirates flight EK764...Johannesburg to Dubai, I get to turn left!

I recently had to fly to Portugal on Emirates.
I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the check-in counter
to find that I had been upgraded to Business Class!
It meant that the hours I had to "kill" at ORT International Airport could be spent here.

NO sparkling wine in THIS lounge.
They serve the real deal!

Alright...I admit it...the "missing" piece of cheesecake was on my plate...
It was 4pm, and I did not think that a full meal was a wise idea,
knowing that we were going to get fed on the plane.
I am glad that I waited...but more about the on-board food shortly.

I liked the way the sunlight lit this statue.
Not a Remington, but still beautiful

Time to head to the plane.
And at the entrance, I got to turn left!

I don't know why I look so pensive,
Perhaps I was worrying about trying to figure out how my chair worked.

Like a mini pod for the lucky few that fly in this section of the plane.
On this leg, Johannesburg to Dubai, we flew in a Boeing 777-300ER

Did I mention that the chair could do wonderful "things"?

And all controlled by these three buttons...

Service started before we even left the ground...
Champagne, fruit juice and the ubiquitous hot little white towel.
The cabin staff were amazing!
Quietly efficient and always eager to meet the needs of the passengers.
Between them they spoke 13 languages, including Afrikaans.
One of the cabin attendants was from Durban, but lived in Port Elizabeth for a while.
I discovered that we both went to the same school, only in different decades.

Time for take off.
The outside temperature went from +20C to -1C in less than 42.2km

It might have been cold on the outside,
But inside there was warmth and snacks galore.

Time for dinner...
Unfortunately, I did not write down the details of the dishes I was served.
I know that my starter was fish...

So was the soup...

And my main was a delicious beef fillet with veg

And for dessert, banana cheese-cake...

And then it was time for bed.
And I mean that literally.
This is the first time that I have flown in "proper" business class.
I was even given a mattress.

An overhead selfie.
I was able to stretch out without the seat belt digging into my hip.
THIS is the way to do long distance flights!

Not quite the night sky, but close enough.
All too soon the flight was over as we landed at Dubai

Luckily, the layover time was less than an hour.
Therefore, a quick cup of coffee and a muffin before boarding the next flight to Lisbon
