Annascaul is the birthplace of the famous Irish Antartic explorer, Tom Crean.
Tom, together with his wife and young daughter are buried in an old grave yard near the town

Sean Lyons, Chairman of Writers Week is a VERY funny fellow.
And he writes good poetry.
