I spent the night at the Pofadder Hotel, Northern Cape

On a road bound for Pofadder, Northern Cape.
Situated on the N14 between Upington and Springbok,
this tiny town is about to experience a boom due to the
recent commissioning of the Kaxu Solar One project

A quick one night visit to the town and this hotel
Was Pofadder named after the Koranna captain,
Klaas Pofadder?
Or was it just named after the Puff Adder,
a  venomous snake endemic to the area?

The main reception area of the hotel.
I found the staff to be most helpful and welcoming.

This is the "breakfast" dining room.

My room...
Clean and functional.
And sweets on the beds...true "small town"hospitality.
A bonus for me...pillows that met my exacting standards.
There was a TV, but I was unable to turn it on.
(My fault for not checking how it worked)
The hotel has W-Fi connectivity, in the main reception area only

The bath did have a hand-held shower,
but no shower curtain.
Also the "hot" and "cold" markings on the bath taps were missing.
This meant a lot of trial and error on my part to get the water
to the correct temperature.
An easy fix for management.

One of the seating areas in the reception area.

A view towards the front door.

Sunset in Pofadder...
and that meant time to head back to the hotel for dinner

The dining area decor is minimal and functional.
The staff  were on the ball and helpful
when it came to recommendations for my dinner choices.

Is Gorden Blue any relation to local South African singer,
Elvis Blue?
When English is not a first language, mistakes are bound to happen.
That being said, it added to the ambiance of the dining experience.

Karoo lamb and vegetables.
The lamb was superb, but the vegetables were overcooked.
Even so the meal was delicious.

Dessert...not a baked cheesecake but tasty never the less.

Some of the locals enjoying a chat and a drink in the bar
at the Pofadder Hotel

A lone biker stopped to look for breakfast at the hotel

Not yet popular as a tourist destination,
the area does have potential for future growth in this industry
and attracting more of the adventure tourist market.

Early morning, in the freezing cold, I await the sunrise.

Homeward bound...
Heading back to Upington and my flight back to Johannesburg
