2015 Travel & Things.My year in review. Part 1

2015 turned out to be a VERY busy travel year for me.
Three international destinations
and locally I went from Pofadder to the Waterberg
and most places in between.
These are some of the highlights.
To see Part 2:
I have sold some of my images both locally and internationally.
These are limited, signed editions that can be bought directly from me.
I said goodbye to Heia Safari Ranch after a
45 year relationship with the original owners.
The best international meal of 2015.
I can highly recommend this restaurant in Abu Dhabi.
I have visited both the Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque in Istanbul,
but for sheer splendour and size, this wins hands down.
It dominated the vista from my hotel window in Abu Dhabi
This is my second visit to this wonderful property
just outside of East London.
This time, my wife was with me...
and we will be back next year to renew our wedding vows.
For a romantic getaway, this property is IDEAL!
I "discovered" a hotel chain, previously unknown to me.
They have properties in several cities
and their staff is exceptional.
Historically, East London is a very important city.
Visually it is tired and in need of a major overhaul.
Currently, it does not rate highly as a local tourist destination.
Something that should be addressed as it has a lot to offer.
After a break of 10 years, my wife and I revisited
Valley Lodge & Spa in Magaliesberg.
We were more than pleasantly surprised by the changes that have taken place.
Bellgables Country Restaurant might well be one
of Johannesburg's best kept secrets.
The food and ambiance are superb.
I was lucky enough to get to visit Madikwe Safari Lodge for a second time.
There have been some changes made, all for the better.
In 2014, we visited Istanbul while on a Mediterranean cruise.
In 2015 we went back to spend time in Istanbul and Cappadocia.
Is this our holiday home on the Med?
Unfortunately not...
It was our accommodation at More Quarters in Cape Town.
And just across the road is another fine property belonging to the MORE group.
This was our room at the Cape Cadogan.
Finally we got to stay at the 12 Apostles in Cape Town.
This has been on my bucket list for the past 10 years.
Believe it or not...
I got to spend a night at the Pofadder Hotel.
A must visit destination.
De Hoek Country Hotel in the Magaliesberg.
I was privilaged to spent time at the new Park Hyatt Zanzibar.
This island has so much to offer.
The only downside for South Africans is that curretly only one airline
flies there directly.
I described Dubai as a mixture of "Gotham" and the set of "Blade Runner"
That being said, I visited during Ramadan has was found it to be a wonderful
destination, rather than just an airport to transit though.
I spent my birthday in the Waterberg.
First at this MORE Group trails camp...
Followed by a visit to the Safari Camp...both of which are in the same reserve.
This view is what I awoke to on my actual birthday.
