Veldskoen Shoes. The sole of Africa. Stepping out in style.

Veldskoen have been an Iconic shoe of South African farmers for centuries known for their exceptional comfort and durability. Each pair is handmade in South Africa, cut and sewn from handpicked African rawhide leather making each shoe a unique one of a kind, following the precise design standards set forward from centuries of South African shoe making traditions.
This information comes from the Veldskoen website.

Bloem.
The dictionary definition of this type of shoe reads as follows:
A South African shoe with untanned leather upper sewn without nails.
First known use 1731 (Dutch)
And STILL going strong!
I have had this orange pair for several years
and I am loath to discard them for a new pair.
They have been well worn and now fit me like a glove.
The thought of breaking in a new pair is daunting.
Not to mention the fact that I almost feel as if I am abandoning these.
All these shoes form part of the Heritage Range

Uhambo
Rocking out in the pink...
All the colours come in both men and ladies sizes.
And who says that colour has to be gender specific.
Back in the 1920's red was seen as a masculine colour,
while pink(or a lighter version of red)
was used for boys.
This all changed in the 1940's,
when blue was seen as a strong masculine colour
and pink the more feminine.
Veldskoen Shoes is helping to break through that barrier!
One pink pair at a time...

What do you get if to mix Pinotage and Lowveld
This was my "Christmas" pair.
You can mix and match the shoes to make a statement.
But then you will at least three pairs!

Vilakazi
Out in the bush, where they REALLY belong.
Velskoen were seen as a predominantly farmers shoe.
Or at very least a working shoe.
Not necessarily a fashion statement.
The introduction of coloured laces and soles has changed that perception.

Pinotage
Being a non-drinker,
I chose to wear my Pinotage rather than drink it.

Farmer
These are the "originals"...
And this particular colour seems to be the most ordered in the range.
An almost neutral colour that can be worn in the bush or the boardroom.

Safari
Another "dress shoe".
I did wear mine to a couple of dinners and meetings
at a game lodge...so it worthy of the name "Safari".

J-Bay
Named after a well known surfing spot on the South African coast,
hence I chose the closest thing to the sea that I could find in the bush
...a bath tub in a game lodge tent.

Lowveld
Out on a game dive...in the Lowveld,
while wearing my Lowveld veldskoen.
It does not get better than this.
There had been a LOT of rain and although the shoes got soaked
they dried quickly and with no watermarks or stains.

Proudly South African
and a great footwear statement that embodies our
"RAINBOW NATION"...
Putting our best(dressed) feet forwards.

A big thank you to each of these brands
 for coming on board.

I have worn the orange Veldskoen in the jungles of India
and on the beaches of Croatia.
Not to mention, many game reserves in Africa.
They are probably the most comfortable pair of shoes
that I have ever owned.
Now to try out the rest of the colours in the range.

This has been my constant travel companion
for the past several years.
It might look worn,
but that represents the kilometers/miles
we have shared together.
From Kilimanjaro to the beaches of India.
To coach trips across Europe and Vietnam
and to a variety of game lodges and road trip destinations
 in South and Southern Africa.

This locally made product was indispensable when using a long lens.
The ball and socket might look simple...and it is,
which is why it should be in the gear bag of every serious photographer.
This locally made, deceptively simple device is ideal
for tracking birds in flight or animals in motion.
The base can be used on a beanbag or a tripod,
with the ball being fitted to the camera.
The simplicity of the device allows to to move from supported
to hand held in a fluid motion.
There is also a version that can be used on a car window.
